Titanium Dioxide for Paint & Coating – Premium Grades from Chemion AG

*High whiteness, strong opacity, reliable dispersion – powered by chloride and sulphate process technologies*

Introduction

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) is the most essential white pigment used in the paint, coating, plastic, and ink industries. Its high refractive index, covering power, and brightness make it the gold standard for achieving opacity, color strength, and UV protection in decorative and industrial applications.

At Chemion AG, we supply two advanced rutile TiO₂ grades, each designed to meet the specific demands of our customers across architectural coatings, powder coatings, industrial paints, automotive, and even aerospace formulations.

Chloride vs Sulphate Process – What’s the Difference?

Aspect

Chloride Process (CTR-10)

Sulphate Process (STR-6)

Feedstock

Chlorine + TiCl₄

Sulphuric acid + ilmenite

Purity & Whiteness

Higher brightness and L* value

Slightly lower brightness, more bluish hue

Environmental

More efficient, modern, lower waste

Older process, more waste-intensive

Particle Control

More uniform, better for gloss & dispersion

Good opacity and hiding, less control

Applications

High-end paints, auto coatings, aerospace

Decorative coatings, primers, paper coatings
