Precipitated Barium Sulphate in Powder Coatings

*Ultra-fine, high-purity Blanc Fixe for gloss, stability, and surface optimization*

What is Precipitated Barium Sulphate?

Precipitated Barium Sulphate (BaSO₄), also known as Blanc Fixe, is a chemically inert, white, micronized filler produced from highly purified barium salts. Compared to natural barytes, precipitated grades offer:
- Much higher purity and brightness
- Ultra-narrow particle size distribution
- Enhanced chemical and thermal stability
- Very low oil absorption and surface area

These features make it a key functional filler in powder coatings, delivering surface improvement, gloss control, and pigment extension.

Why Use Blanc Fixe in Powder Coating?

Powder coatings require perfect particle compatibility, mechanical resistance, and consistent optical properties. PBS enhances key parameters in multiple ways:

Benefit

Effect in Powder Coatings

High Purity (98.8% BaSO₄)

No impurities, no interference with curing

Narrow Particle Size (d50 ≈ 1 µm)

Uniform film thickness, smooth surface

Low Oil Absorption (13–16 g/100g)

Maintains resin flow, does not overload binder

High Brightness (L* = 99)

Enhances color strength, improves whiteness

Chemical Inertness

No reactivity with pigments or curing agents

High Density (4.4 g/cm³)

Increases mechanical durability & scratch resistance

Where to Use It?

Chemion PBS-12 is especially suited for:
- Gloss control and film leveling
- Whiteness enhancement without yellowing
- Matting agent carrier
- Pigment volume extender in high-gloss & matte systems
- Cost-effective filler without compromising quality

It integrates seamlessly into:
✅ Architectural powder coatings
✅ General industrial powder paints
✅ Automotive components
✅ High-solid systems requiring filler balance
